Biography of Vinita Jain

Vinita Jain has been drawing and painting since she was a child.Growing up in India, she was exposed to the motifs, patterns and colors in her surroundings, Indian fabrics and handicrafts. After completing graduation, she did Commercial Art course and worked as a Graphic Designer. Around twelve years back, she came to the United States and attended the Art School at Meredith College in Raleigh which further enhanced her artistic skills.

Vinita likes to work with soft pastels due to its immediacy and spontaneity. She has also recently started working in acrylics. Although her subject matter has changed over a period of time, she feels that her work is moving more towards abstract art. Her style includes working in an impressionistic manner with strokes and she infuses that with a strong sense of color and movement. She is inspired by the works of Van Gogh, Degas and Wolf Kahn.

The painting ‘Circular Dance’ was made with pure intuition. The purpose of this work was to experiment with two kinds of lines- straight and circular. The choice of a black surface and the use of vibrant colors adds to the intensity, drama and a feel of cosmic space. As with her recent works, this painting also evokes a sense of rhythm and movement.
