Greeting to all NCSFA Shop Owners and Employees!
We had a great convention in 2007, and we appreciated the participation of all attendees, members, wholesalers, and contributors and now we are excited about 2008!
I am excited to announce that our attendance increased last year, as so many conventions are on the decline. Let's make 2007 a record year!
We would like to announce to you that we had a total of 13 design competitions in 2007! People, just like you, came out and showed their stuff! What made it so much more exciting was the fact that so many of these competition entries were by first time entrants! We want to see YOU and your shop competing!

As you select a competition, or competitions, take in to consideration the theme of next years convention!

Remember, make sure NOW that your membership is current. You must have been a current member for 6 months before the convention to compete! Please consider NOW what design competitions you may be interested in entering!
The NC Jim Treadaway Cup
NC’s most prestigious competition with a $1000.00 education scholarship, name placement on the permanent trophy, and a permanent plaque for the winner. This is an interpretive design competition, and is only open to the first 15 entries received! Plan early and watch for your convention information!
The NCSFA Designer of the Year Award
The winner of this competition carries the title of North Carolina’s Designer of the Year for one year. The entrants are given the same fresh flowers, the same hard goods, and the same amount of time to create a display of 5 compositions. These are judged on design criteria, principals and elements of design. The winner is chosen by the combined highest over all score. There is no higher honor than serving as North Carolina’s Designer of the Year!
Centerpiece Competition
Select materials that will complement the theme of the convention, envision a centerpiece, and go for it!
Miniature Arrangement Competition
Use your big imagination, but keep it small! You won't believe how much fun this competition is each year! Make it ahead of time and bring it with you!
Mask Competition
Design a mask, and come prepared to model it! You may model it, or have someone model it for you! Have fun with it! Coordinate a costume to go with your mask! Only the mask will be judged, so keep your focus on your mask!
Headdress Competitions (Basic or Regular Levels)
Choose your design ability “comfort level” from the basic (beginner) level or the regular (advanced, or after winning basic 3 times) level. Design a headdress or hat that compliments the theme of the convention, and come prepared to model it! You may model it, or have someone model it for you! Have fun with it! Coordinate a costume to go with your headdress! Only the headdress will be judged, so keep your focus on your headdress!
Body Flower Competition (Basic or Regular Levels)
Choose your design ability “comfort level” from the basic (beginner) level or the regular (advanced, or after winning basic 3 times) level. Design a corsage, wristlet… or anything to be worn in the body, that compliments the theme of the convention, oh, and come prepared to model it! You may model it, or have someone model it for you! Have fun with it! Coordinate a costume to go with your body flowers! Only the body flower will be judged, so keep your focus on your body flowers!
We give the people their choice! In addition to being criteria judged, our Jim Treadaway and Mask competitions have “People’s Choice” voting.
Florist of the Year
Please consider your nomination for a florist who is above reproach in business practices and in life for “Florist of the Year”, Send in a letter of recommendation to the address supplied in your convention package upon its arrival to you!
Wholesaler of the Year
Please consider your nomination for “Wholesaler of the Year”, and send in a letter of recommendation to the address supplied in your convention package upon its arrival to you! We are looking for wholesalers who work hard, like you do, to make this industry stronger and all it can be!
Watch for more information coming from the NCSFA about our Annual Convention, July 25-27, at the North Raleigh Hilton in Raleigh, NC. The convention is centrally located, for easy access from anywhere in North Carolina. Plan on being in attendance, and competing in our fun, prestigious competitions! 2007 Competition Winners are on the website. They had what it takes. Now it’s your turn! Please pass this letter on to any designer that would enjoy “flexing their design muscle”! No entry fees, just fun! You can do it! Just take the first steps! Check your membership, and then sign up! Come to compete! Come to learn! Come to network! Come to have fun!
